Extremely Rich from the Poor and Vulnerable

The poor are defined as those lacking any money, and the vulnerable are those who cannot look after it when they have it.

There have always been poor. The Bible is full of examples of people without two brass farthings to rub together, and plenty of these were smitten with sore boils as well. It is a Law of Nature that any heap has to have a bottom; and a quick examination of heaps in farmyards will show you that some of the creatures living in the lower regions are fairly unprepossessing. Most deals are floated on credit, sustained on tick, and brought off in the nick of time. It is essential to be able to get hold of large chunks of cash with no strings attached while you negotiate the delicate middle stretch of making a fortune. You have probably noticed that banks are normally pretty flush with high denomination notes, and most of these the public never get to see at all. Continue Reading »

How to arrange Advertising, Photo or Article which has the persuasive power?

I once organised a workshop and to market the event placed a paid advert as well as submitting a press release and photographs to the news editor of the local newspaper. That same week, the paper carried the paid advert and the article (and a photograph in colour!) about the event. Both the advert and the article carried certain contact details, so we were able to carefully monitor the response. Continue Reading »

Office Politics, When to Be Tough

To be sure, leadership does demand certain toughness—at times. The art of leadership entails knowing when to be assertive for example, confronting someone directly about their performance lapses—and when to be collegial and use less direct ways to guide or influence.

Persuasion, consensus building, and all the other arts of influence do not always do the job. Sometimes it comes down to simply using the power of one’s position to get people to act.
