14. Are household chores shared between you and your partner? Will any change be needed now that you are working at home?
15. How are your children cared for normally, and when they are sick?
16. What proportion of the household income will the business provide, according to your plans?

Having answered this questionnaire discuss your plans with your family. Get them to answer the questionnaire as well, so that any problems you have not envisaged can be raised in discussion. It is better to air any problems before starting your business so that you can avoid them, rather than encountering difficulties in the future.

The ideal candidate for a home-based business will also have:

• an understanding and supportive partner
• an understanding and supportive family
• no major worries about home life
• no major concerns over children
• a healthy family

In addition be sure that your family will rally round and help with the household chores which you will no longer have time for. If your partner is in a full-time job you will both have extra pressures to cope with home and family matters. Be aware from the outset that these problems will arise so that you will be able to cope. If you ignore the fact that a home-based business will put pressure upon your home life you could reduce your marital bliss at the same time as lowering your profits. Be warned!
