The Success Test, Business Mood Test
Having what it takes
I have interviewed and observed a number of successful business people, and have summarised what many of these entrepreneurs have in common. From this, I’ve compiled a questionnaire requiring simple ‘true‘ or ‘false’ answers. If you get 80 per cent or more true answers, you have what it takes to be a successful business person. If you have not scored well, remember that these are the characteristics of highly effective entrepreneurs, and strive to follow their example. If that’s what you truly want — to be the best — you are able to train yourself. Just as you can train yourself to run a marathon, bake the best chocolate cake or crochet a blanket, you can train yourself to be the best — as long as you are really ready, are prepared for what it takes and are open to learn.
So, let’s see what you’re made of… (If you answered true to 80 per cent of the points below you can easily start climbing the ladder of success.)
- I have balls! True or false?
- I tend to look for solutions rather than problems. True or false?
- I package and present myself professionally. True or false?
- I believe in myself. True or false?
- I seem to be infatuated, almost obsessed, with what I do. True or false?
- My passion gives me the energy I need in order to commit to what I do, because I know success is not an overnight adventure. (Many people fail because they give up too soon.) True or false?
- Most of my energy goes into my work. If I do go on holiday, the first things I pack are my laptop and my creative juices. True or false?
- Both my mind and my character are as strong as a bull, and my hard-learnt wisdom allows me to embrace difficulties and see them as opportunities from which to learn. True or false?
- About 90 per cent of what I talk about is related to work, even when I’m in a social environment. True or false?
- I am always open to new ideas and change. True or false?
- I’m generally extremely confident. True or false? * I’m very decisive. True or false?
- I’m a lateral thinker. True or false?
- I am able to draw up a sound business plan. True or false?
- I have business associates and family who believe in me. True or false?
- I have the determination of a wild tiger. If I have an idea that’s good, I never give up the chase. True or false?
- I never have enough, but tend to share everything I have. True or false?
- I delegate with care and trust. True or false?
- I have the ability to initiate new projects. True or false?
- I never sit back, even when I’ve already met with some measure of success. I immediately pounce onto the next venture. True or false?
- I have an uncanny ability to see the income potential in a project. True or false?
- I know that even the best ideas with the most potential must be run effectively or they, too, will fail. True or false?
- I’m willing to learn the trade. True or false?
- I employ skilled people. True or false?
- My focus is on the financial potential of the project. True or false?
- I know that a true entrepreneur never rests — they remain excited about what they do, and vibrate at a much higher intensity then most people. True or false?
- I am able to smell a good opportunity a mile away. True or false?
Are you in the right profession?
Give yourself a spot test to see whether you’re in the wrong profession. Very often people are not reaching their full potential simply because they are in the wrong profession.
- Do you relate to any of the following?
- Friday takes forever to arrive!
- You struggle to find constructive things to do.
- When your alarm goes off, you delay getting up for another 10 minutes.
- You’re miserable.
- You’re not doing what you are qualified to do.
- You don’t sing when you work.
Finding the X factor
A little enthusiasm
Our physical bodies and material possessions all turn to dust eventually, but our soul — which is the home of enthusiasm — lasts forever… I believe that when you are enthusiastic, the creator within us emerges and that is why enthusiastic people shine so brightly.
Many companies have aptitude tests you can do to determine what you are best at. If you answered yes to most of the questions, I highly recommend you do a test to determine what you do best and, hopefully, that will help determine both your interests and, more importantly, your passion. You need to find your X factor and then — and only then — will success be as easy as climbing a ladder.
