Career Shift, Small Business Starter Self-Assessment Quiz
- How often do you reach your personal and career goals within the time you have specified for them? How do you react when you are late?
- Describe an instance when you’ve had to do whatever it took in order to fulfill a promise. Would you be willing to go to similar lengths when running your business? Come up with a hypothetical situation in your business where you would not want to go out on a limb. How would you handle it instead?
- At work would you rather concentrate on one project at a time, or do you thrive on keeping lots of balls in the air while searching for more?
- How do you work best: with an impossible deadline looming or with more time than you think you need? How have you reacted in the past when forced to work out of sync with your natural style?
- Do you work better if you are surrounded by people or if you’re by yourself?
- Do you truly believe deep down that you can succeed at anything to which you set your mind? If not, what is standing in your way and what do you need to do to fix it?
- If you make a decision and it turns out to be wrong, how well do you admit the error and accept responsibility? Do you fix it yourself or look for someone else to do the work?
- How do you envision your personal life two, five, and ten years down the road regardless of whether you start your own business or not? Where will you be living, and in what style?
- In terms of your energy level, are you a natural hare, working best in short spurts interspersed with brief rest periods, or are you a turtle, where slow and steady wins the race?
- What is the primary reason you want to start your own business? Be as honest as you can.
Starting and running your own business requires wisdom, self-confidence, and the ability to plug away day after day, knowing that your sweat and long hours will result in a worthy goal: the satisfacdon of succeeding at a business that would not have seen the light of day without your efforts. Being aware of your strengths and weaknesses in advance will go a long way toward developing the skills necessary to help you succeed.
