Here are some reasons why network marketing has attracted so many people:

You add value to your own life.

Many people feel locked into a job. They do not enjoy going to work. They work because they have to provide for their families. Given the financial freedom to leave tomorrow, they would.

One of the reasons for the tremendous success of network marketing is that it adds value to people’s lives while at the same time generating wealth. Network marketing is not exploitive of talent:

• It builds up people, their stature and self-esteerfi.
• It uses fully their own energy, skills and talent.
• It provides individuals with a feeling of self-respect and identity

In network marketing, the individual takes responsibility for her own life. Developing a network provides one with a tremendous sense of achievement; a feeling of getting things done and being responsible for one’s own destiny. Instead of living the life of a zombie, going through the motions of working from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day, it really sets you free to realise your true potential and be rewarded for it.

You work in a positive and encouraging environment.

Much unhappiness in business is created because bosses ‘boss’. They tell you to do this and to do that. Their focus is on implementing a policy or marketing plan and then taking corrective action when things go wrong. As a result, emphasis is often placed on negative aspects of employee performance, on taking corrective action and even on threatening people’s job security.

In network marketing, the reverse is true. No one is made to feel a failure. There are no targets that have to be met or beaten. You set your own targets. Members of the network are never criticised, embarrassed, hurt, angered, disciplined or pressurised to make sales. The focus of the network is to:

build up the people in your team

• show caring, support and appreciation
• coach the individual so that she becomes effective
• let people accept responsibility for their own lives and results.

This is a radical shift in thinking, away from the traditional business approach.

You are fully rewarded for your own effort.

Without exception, employees will tell you they are underpaid. Whether this perception is correct or not is really irrelevant. Reward is not, or should not be, related to how hard you work, but to how much you contribute towards your firm’s success.

There is the story of an employee who was sitting behind an empty desk with just a single sheet of paper in front of him. He sat there, motionless, staring out the window. A visitor passing by his office with the managing director said in astonishment, ‘You pay him for working for you?’ to which the director said, ‘Sssh! Don’t disturb him. Last month he came up with an idea that made us a million rand.’

But how often are you fully rewarded for your efforts and achievements? Again, network marketing and traditional business differ. In traditional business, the greater the reward paid to the employee, the greater the effort or contribution expected from her by the employer. Effort is a consequence of reward. In network marketing it works the other way round. The greater the effort and contribution made by the employee, the greater the reward. Reward is a consequence of effort.

In network marketing no one is paid a basic salary. No one is judged by their previous work experience or the number of degrees they have. Results are all that count. You are paid for what you produce. You determine your own limits. In other words, you set your own salary.
