Should you go into network marketing?

If you are serious about starting your own business, why not answer these questions:

Do you really want to start your own business? Are you prepared to invest three to five hours every week on a continuous basis in order to build up your network?

If you said ‘No’ or if you are not sure of the answer to the above question, don’t read further. Without your personal commitment to putting your ideas into action, you will remain at the same income level; someone who envies others for their wealth, success and fortune. Yet thousands of people have been positive about this question and said: ‘Yes! Let’s go for it!

Do you really want to make money? Many people are quite happy with their lifestyle. They have become used to a limited income. While they love to read magazines and dream about, that romantic holiday in the Seychelles, adventure in Africa in an off-road 4×4, expensive designer clothes and jewellery, a luxury home or holiday cottage, this never becomes a reality. They do not really want to change.

Business BlogSo you need to ask yourself whether you want or need more money. Do you want to extend what you can do in life, if not for yourself, perhaps for your children? Dreams and unfulfilled wishes are the wellspring of motivation. As Napoleon Hill, author and motivator, has noted: ‘What a man can conceive, and believe, he can achieve.’ The future is in your grasp if you have the will.

Only you can decide whether you are happy with your present situation or whether you want to change. One thing is for sure: if you carry on doing what you’ve always done, you’ll continue to get what you’ve always had. Is that enough?

Do you want a risk-free, recession-proof business? The recent economic recession has resulted in considerable hardship and retrenchments. Many established businesses closed, with owners losing their capital and perhaps their life’s savings. If you’re looking for a business that is one of the safest forms of business, network marketing is for you. There is virtually no risk involved.

Do you need to have a good education or business experience to start? Many people, parents especially, put great store on getting a good education. The thinking is that a good education is essential for a good job. In reality, there is little connection between business success and the education you have. If this were the case, then professors and academics would head the list of the wealthiest — and they don’t. Thousands of direct sellers with very average education and no business experience have started successful network businesses.

What are the chances of losing money? Just about zero. Network marketing works. Your financial risk is limited to the amount of stock you buy. Even then, most reputable network companies have a sale-or-return policy. If youover-order a certain line, you can return it (within a reasonable time limit) for a full refund.

What are the chances of success? Excellent — if you work at it. Of course, you will not make much money by working only five hours per week. One of the authors of this book started from scratch and had a business generating close on R1-million sales turnover within two years. You may do much better or worse. It is up to you.

Must you have a lot of money to get into this business? Very little capital is required. In some instances as little as R100 to R250 will get you started. Contrast this with, say, franchising, a perfectly acceptable form of business, but where start-up costs range between R15 000 and R150 000 or more. Most people in this country simply don’t have that kind of money. Anyone, irrespective of financial status, can become involved in network marketing.

What about labour, machinery, stock purchases, debtors and offices? No problem. You can start as a one-man or one-woman show. There is no need to hire expensive labour. There is no machinery or equipment to buy. You do not need huge inventories. You make purchases as required. All transactions are for cash, therefore you have no problems with people owing you money. Your office is a room in your home.
