Get Your Business off to a Quick Start (Week two)
Week two
Take time out to plan what you are going to do this week You’ve just started. Look back on the first week. Where did you succeed? What could you do better? Visualise your goals such as a new home, a car or an overseas trip. Focus on why you are making all this effort.
Hold a meeting in your home You said you would do it, so do it. Get your sponsor to help you. Invite as many friends and members of your family as possible. Make it a fun evening. Have a few product prizes to give away. Show the videotape or part of it. Talk with enthusiasm about what you are trying to do and the benefits of network marketing. Invite people on board the steam-train!
Sponsor a distributor Whatever you do this must be your number one goal for the week; just get one personto join your network. It’s second prize if they just take products. Remember, you don’t want to start a retail business; you want to grow a network marketing organisation. Just one distributor a week totals over 50 in a year. That’s not a bad goal for starters.
Decide to create a home office Read Chapter 4 to find out what you will need. Beg for or borrow the equipment you need. Think about setting up a small display.
Get on the telephone and prospect Yes, it’s the quickest way to get around. Sytematically work through your prospect list. Always ask people you telephone: ‘Is there anyone you know who would be interested in starting their own business?’ Try to set up appointments.
Take a product and study it Make a little product knowledge card. Write down everything you can think of. Especially focus on the benefits. Learn to love that product. You should, because it could make you a millionaire.
Open a bank account for your business You’re going to need it. Make sure you have some way of recording your profits and losses for your salary and, sadly, for the taxman. Get advise from the bank if you need it, but don’t spend money unnecessarily.
Write out a model sales interview This takes a lot of spade-work. It may seem tedious to write out a script but, if you wish to become a sales professional, you need to know what you are going to say and when. It doesn’t hurt to learn your script off by heart. Later, you can modify and improve it. You might also ask your sponsor for advice.
Attend your sponsor’s weekly business session Take someone with you. Who knows, she could get hooked. And you’re learning, learning, learning.
Think how else you can get the business Start planning ways of reaching the huge untapped market out there. Perhaps you can run an advertisement in the classifieds and see what happens. Or maybe there is a Small Business Advisory Unit in the town where you live. What ideas do they have? Try to arrange your day so that you are busy but always working for a purpose.
